BACK TO OUR ROOTS

Recently, I had the opportunity to return to the mainland for a family reunion in Oregon and a quick visit to Idaho before returning to the island. Being back in Idaho made me incredibly happy. The sites, the smells, my family. . . all of it just brought back floods of memories from my wonderful childhood. Our (x3) wonderful childhood. There were times growing up when I couldn't wait to get out of Idaho and just explore other places. Which clearly, we have each done pretty well at. But looking back, home will always be home, and that is in Idaho. No matter how many countries we travel to or where we each end up settling down, Idaho is a special place to us.

We have a family cabin in Cascade, Idaho that was built from the ground up by my Grandpa, dad, and two uncles. It's very 70's, rustic and cozy, just as a family cabin should be.The selfish part of me doesn't want to disclose so publicly this amazingly gorgeous neck of the woods, but here we are. There is something so peaceful about the mountains. There are endless things to do where nothing matters but exploring. Nothing beats filling your day riding motorcycles in the mountains, surfing in the river, fishing from the docks, hiking new trails, and napping on the front porch with nothing to wake you but the sound of cows mooing. And to top it off, ending the day with a campfire surrounded by family and fun conversation is one of the best times in the world. It's memories like these that never fade. You just have to keep on making them.

  1. What a great place to call home... Where I come from isn't that great. Yes, it's a wealthy country (The Netherlands) and I had food and a roof over my head and education, and I very thankful for that, but I don't look back with such love for the place where we grew up. What I DO love is the time spent with family around a fire or around a lovely dinner we prepared together. My family is my home, my family is my roots, wherever we are, wherever I am.

I really LOVE your blog, and mentioned it on my own blog as one of my favourites! You can check it out here: http://thatinspirationblog.blogspot.nl/2013/08/six-things.html
