Today we are going on a VANVENTURE! Drew and I are driving our VW Vanagon to Oregon to meet up with Kylie and Spencer in Portland. From there we will explore the Oregon coastline all the way until we reach Waldport, where we will be staying for a family reunion where Lisa will join us.

In preparation for our time on the road and camping, we came up with a list to help you stay fresh on the road! One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to drink plenty of water, better yet put a lemon in it. Lemon is a great natural detox along with the water to keep you hydrated.

1. HANDS: Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer. Whenever you are at a rest stop take advantage of the warm water and soap. Just in case, we always pack a travel size hand sanitizer. It fits perfectly in your purse or even glove box and is still effective in killing nasty bacteria.

2. FACE: A refreshing splash of water can do the trick, but for the times when water is not readily available use make-up remover cloths and moisturizer cream. You will feel much better just by washing your face and starting new after a long drive or night camping. Sometimes the "yesterdays makeup" look is good to us when we wake up with perfect eyelashes, but most often not. It is also wise to use sunblock when you are out on your adventures, whether it be a hike or day at the beach. I have learned this lesson the hard way. Sunburn is never worth it and a quick way to ruin your trip.

3. MOUTH: Chew minty gum when there just isn't a time or place to brush your teeth. Bring a travel toothbrush that folds up nice and small or something like Colgate wisps. Items like this are perfect for when you are on the go and small enough to fit in your pocket. Nothing feels (and smells) better than fresh breath.

4. BODY: Aside from the obvious wearing d.o. for the b.o. cut down on the stink and choose the right clothes. Wear something light and breathable to prevent sweating. I like to wear things with no hard seams or light cotton when traveling on the road just to avoid discomfort and stickiness. Use wet wipes to freshen up at pit stops and if you're camping. A quick wipe down will do wonders for your peace of mind. Shave when you get the chance. That alone can make you feel more like a lady.

5. HAIR: Use dry shampoo or sprinkle some baking soda in your hair and rub it in starting at the roots. This works especially well if you haven't been able to shower in a few days and your hair is starting to look greasy. It absorbs excess oils and cleans without water. This little trick will bring life back to your hair so you can go another day.

Remember to be prepared and bring extra personal feminine products just in case. I also like to keep a roll of toilet paper in the glove box because you never know when you gotta go. Stay clean, feel good, and happy travels!

  3. Oh wow!

one question: we're heading to the westcoast for a campingtrip and wonder if it's allowed to sleep in our tent beyond official campgrounds? do i need special permits? cause i see you camping at the beach and so nice! thanks a lot:)

    1. it depends on the state, but i live in california and i do know you cannot camp outside the official campgrounds. you have to pay and especially in state parks, only sleep in designated areas. otherwise you'll have to sneak around ;) that's always possible too! if you're not in a national park, it can be different but i pick campsites that are on the beach if i want to sleep on the beach.
